VCE CAREERS EXPO
Stalls! Seminars! “Pretty lights, pretty lights, pretty lights!”
Just like Mr Malcolm told us it would be.
The VCE and Careers Expo is a one-of-a-kind experience, providing the year 12 VCE cohort with a more informed and well round view of what’s out there for life beyond year 12. There were a heap of stalls – every major University and TAFE Institution was there ready to hand us course guides, free pens and hoodies if you were lucky but most importantly they were able to answer all of our questions. There was something there for everyone to explore.
Many students attended the VCE lectures run by chief examiners and curriculum developers where we gained invaluable knowledge and understanding about how to prepare for our SACs and end of year exams. Half of our cohort attended the VCE English lecture along with our English teachers and we gained skills that we took back to school to utilise in our classrooms moving forward.
A few of us attended the Defence Force lecture which allowed us to gain an insight into the lives of people who work within the Defence Force. We were informed about the different opportunities and the many versatile jobs within the Force.
At the end of the day we all had a much better understanding of the University courses, TAFEs or career pathways we are interested in. Being able to talk to people in careers that we are interested in joining and people who have completed university enhanced our knowledge of what we might want to do after school, while also giving us an insight into what we are required to do over the next few months to experience university life in 2022.
